the last ten years have gone by incredibly fast. For the last have gotten an annual remider of the amount of time that has passed. Ten years ago today, I got some of the worst news of my life. I can't believe that it's been this long. And this anniversary date always seems to sneak up on me. Ten years have passed since my best friend, my kindred spirit and a classmate and friend were taken too early.

I can never help but wonder where she would be today. She would be 27 in a little over a week. Where would she would working? What would she be doing? Where would she be living? What would her goals be? What things would she have checked off the lists we used to write in Algebra II class? Where would she already have traveled to? She was such an incredible artist, where would she be today? What galleries would she be showing in? I love looking through her artwork, I wish there had been more. I look through some of her sketches, and I can still see her sketching on book covers and on the edges of homework assignments. I look at her self portrait sketches that she did during her last summer...and I see her. She captured herself perfectly. Even something as simple as the butterfly necklace that she wore. It captured her. I am so glad that I have these sketches. So glad that I can still look at these and remember as if it were yesterday. I don't really have anything from Nick, but I think of him often. Where would he be? What would he be doing today?

I have been hanging pictures in the house, and 2 nights ago I picked up a series of her prints that I framed a number of years ago. I hadn't realized how close the anniversary was. But the timing was right. So they are all up on the wall, up the stairwell. And here is one of my favorites...
Kayci and Nick, I will always remember you. Rest in Peace.
